Stop-motion crab creature

This was a stop-motion puppet I worked on during my degree that I'm only just posting.

It was made of cotton stuffed latex and the latex was made in layers with pigment added between layers but ultimately it ended up taking on a lot of the latex's colour. The claws are made from actual lobster claws with wire inserted into them which I also dyed black.

The latex tends to bend/ crease in an odd manner which isn't great. I tried to make the character very asymmetrical to lean into the monstrous design and while it worked in sketches and the Maquette I didn't like it being sculpted into the final puppet as it made it 'stiff' in terms of the poses it would look good in and added to the wrinkling problems of the latex. Which is why I used silicone and foam for my next puppet.
